Making connections

Here are some examples of how we use universal themes (Relationships), depth and complexity (details, multiple perspectives), and content imperatives (parallels) to take the texts of our base program to a deeper level.  Even though we are beginning the year by reading simple texts such as "The Cat Sat," we use our thinking tools to extend our thinking and make personal connections to the text.  This is an effective model for GATE students because the text is easily accessible to the scholars but they are challenged to think about it in a larger context.
